Born in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil (1988), Luiz is a Brazilian ichthyologist with bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences by the Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso do Sul (2007-2010), with master's degree by the Universidade Estadual de Maringá (2011-2013), reviewing Corydoras paleatus under the supervision of Carla Pavanelli and Marcelo Britto.
His PhD was also obtained by the Universidade Estadual de Maringá, working on the thesis entitled "The Aspidoras Ihering, 1907 (Siluriformes: Callichthyidae) armored catfishes: a taxonomic review, with description of a new species", also under supervision of the same advisors and in partnership with Isaac Isbrucker. The main objective of his research is to provide clear ways to recognize Corydoradinae species. In parallel, Luiz devotes part of his time to studying Hypostomus, especially the H. cochliodon group, his other great passion. He has a great sympathy for the aquarist community, in which he was very well received, actively participating of several facebook groups. In his free time, he is also an amateur aquarist and a great enthusiast of amateur fishery.
