Kamphol earned his Master of Science degree from the School of Fisheries, University of Washington in 1989. He began active surveying of Thai freshwater frontiers in 1992. From 1993 to 2002 he worked for a Thai agro-conglomerate (CP Group) in their newly-established aquarium fish R&D department.
In 2003 he set up AquariCORP to supply Thai exporters with wild-caught, exotic fishes from extreme corners of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar.
In his 30 years as a aquarium hobbyist and supplier, Kamphol has introduced many new species to the industry including the Celestial Pearl Danio, Celestichthys margaritatas, in 2006. Two loach species, Botia udomritthiruji and Schistura udomritthiruji, have been named after him in recognition of contributions of many type specimens of Asian fishes to researchers like Tyson Roberts, Heok Hee Ng and Joerg Boelen. Kamphol has a particular interest in catfishes and loaches that he will share with us at the 2018 convention.
